Featured Business Question and Answers: |
| What three words would describe your business best?Corporate, positive, focused |
| |
| What do you love about the business?
I love the flexibility of working for myself, and I thrive off the pressure of deadlines. I also love the fact that my job is dealing with people – I have always enjoyed meeting people so the magazine is the ideal business for me.
|
|
|
| |
| What don’t you like?
There isn’t really anything in my business I don’t like; although I am more than happy to hand over the book work to a professional when it comes to BAS and tax time!
|
| |
| What is your grandest vision for the business?
My vision is to eventually become a publishing house for a range of publications/magazines, and eventually run a national magazine for corporate women |
| |
| Is there any other business you would like to be in if you could?
I am actually a trained biologist and worked for many years in the tourism industry as a tour guide – I do miss this side of my career. I also have always wanted to work in television as a host, I have dabbled with TV but have probably left my run a bit late now!
I love show business too – I have always been known to be an ‘entertainer’, whether it be as a tour guide, tv, in theatre, in the school playground as a girl (every lunchtime was spent rehearsing dance routines and plays), so I wish I had focused more on that side of things as I grew up.
|
| |
| What one thing has added to your success in business?
I have always been quite career-orientated so I have the drive and passion to make a business succeed, but I guess the one thing that has added to my business success is fear of failure – I simply must not fail!
Also, having the ability to self-critise and let go of my ego. I am my own best and worst critic (and yes, I am a Virgo).
|
| |
| What advice would you give to someone just starting out? Have absolute belief that you can succeed and don’t let negative people in your life influence you. And, get a good accountant! |
| |
| Who do you admire in the business world?
I really admire the likes of Richard Branson – people who are not afraid to take risks in business. They have taught me that every ‘mistake’ should be seen as one step closer to your goal; as long as you learn something from every experience. |
|
|
| What would you love your customers to know about your business? That profile magazine is something I have created for the reader – the magazine will always be successful if we have great content, so I am always looking to uncover locals doing great things. Editorial suggestions are always more than welcome!
