Featured Artist Question and Answers:
How long have you been involved in sculpting? I became a professional sculptor in September 2000 while I was managing my picture-framing/art gallery business in Brisbane. I started sculpting in my shop and people loved it.

How have you developed your skill in this area? I developed my skills by upgrading myself from a basic private teacher to a master in sculpture. I learned anatomy and practise a lot. I accept critics.

Who or what has been a major inspiration/influence in sculpting? My major influence starts when I was studying interior design. I started drawing, sketching and like paintings and drawings but needed the 3D volumes and forms to touch even if it is only with eyes.

What do you hope to give with your art? I hope to give beauty and a sense of peace to share. I am hoping to make parents involving their children. At my march exhibition in New-Caledonia a 10 yrs old boy came to me, ask me questions and signed my guest book : this is the future ..

What do you get from your art? With my art I listen more, I am more patient and learned to persevere if you want to achieve something. I met lots of interesting people. Saw amazing countries such as France, Italy, Korea, Mongolia

What has been your greatest moment with your sculpting? I have few great moments : when we had our exhibition in Sth Korea sponsored by Hunday – it was magic : big screen with our work showing, traditional dances and costumes... When I had my first commission and so on. But my greatest of all was sculpting with my elderly Mother next to me. She passed away and I will never have these wonderful moment again...

Where would you like to take your art? I always push my boundaries but I am not the only one involved. After more than 25yrs in Australia we now see sculptures in Australian movies that we did not see 25 yrs ago. This is SO great! I want sculptures to be part of our life style. When I see house worth million of dollars with prints on the wall: it kills me! I wish not to hear “what is it for”!

What would you say to someone who is interested in taking up sculpting? Go for it! If you are committed, persevere, practise, take it seriously but don’t run before you walk.

What part of your spirit adds to your success as an artist? Sharing and being open to critics

Who do you know that is a ‘spirited’ woman? My Mother, Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Frida Kahlo (I am sure I missed lots)

Is there anything else you would like to let us know about you?Since I moved to the Sunshine Coast I started carving timber Now I have the smell on top of the feeling of touch. I sold my first timber sculpture : great promise! I specialised myself in portraiture (from life or photos) – tropies and human bodies. I would like anyone not to hesitate to have a look at my website (in progress) or to contact me.
