Featured Artist Question and Answers:
How long have you been a photographer? I really have been a photographer most of my life actually. I remember when I was about 10 my father was very enthusiastic about it and would spend hours in camera stores buying all sorts of equipment. I got my first camera then and just mucked around. It was when I decided to go back to University and complete an Art History degree in 2005 where I chose a Photography elective that I realized that it was my passion!

How have you developed your skill in this area? Well after I had completed the Photography elective I wanted to study more, however I would’ve had to move interstate to complete a full Photography degree. My professor at the time told me that I really didn’t need to study anymore, as he thought I had a natural talent, and advised me to just keep practicing. So I did. I also joined all of the Australian Photography Associations and submitted my work for critique and awards. I also taught myself to used photo editing software programs and let my intuition guide me.

Who or what has been a major inspiration/influence in your art? The major inspiration of my photography is the amazing natural landscapes and diverse flora and fauna that we have in Australia. Every morning and every evening nature puts on a spectacular light and colour show with the sunrise and sunset and so many people just take them for granted. When you really start to look around you it’s amazing how beautiful our world is.

What do you hope to give with your photography? I hope to give the world an understanding and appreciation of how beautiful this planet is. How magnificent a place it is that we are blessed to live in and to encourage them all to really look at what is under their nose, at their feet and in front of their eyes…and to not let it be destroyed by our acts of foolishness

What do you get from your art? I absolutely LOVE my photography and it really gives me a feeling that is akin to sex! It puts me in the present completely and time slows and every minute is magical. I feel at one with the Universe, source, nirvana, whatever.

What has been your greatest moment with your photography? Wow…the greatest moment? The greatest moment with my photography was when I realized I had found my life’s passion. I remember being excited about a photograph I had taken of the sun rising from Alexandra Headland Hill when I was studying. I rushed home and downloaded the photos to my computer and set about creating a panorama. When it was completed and I saw the result my heart opened and I was filled with the most amazing feeling of bliss and knowing…I had found it…my life’s passion and it had come from within me! Nothing since…winning awards internationally and nationally and just recently being chosen to exhibit my work in Los Angeles at an elite event where 25 of the world’s best photographers were on display have I felt like I did on that first occasion. Now it’s more of a contented knowing that I am following my path.

Where would you like to take your art? I will and am taking my art to the world everyday. In particular a dream of mine is to create books with my photographs and quotes that I love. I am starting to do that now with my other business called ‘Inspire Your Day’. I create eCards, eBooks and Movies that have my photography and quotes to inspire others around the world. I also have a huge Facebook presence where I spread my love of nature and the earth to the world.

What would you say to someone who is interested in taking up photography? What would you say to someone who is interested in taking up photography? Do it! And don’t let anyone tell you are too old, fat, thin, have to do all sorts of courses and apprenticeships etc to ‘get’ anywhere. If you think it might be your passion, follow your heart…it knows!

What part of your spirit adds to your success as an artist? I think because I am a sentient being and have respect for all living things, it is reciprocated! I have taken some amazing shots for example, of nature that I am amazed at…mostly because a lot of my subjects have seemed to have ‘posed’ for me when they wouldn’t ordinarily do that! Also, my intuition plays a big part. I get a feeling to ‘take my camera’ with me and sure enough…there is something wonderous that happens where I am so glad I took my camera with me!

Who do you know that is a ‘spirited’ woman? I know LOTS of spirited women! In particular, my ‘Angel Mum’ as I call her… Suzanne Dean. She popped up in my life a few years ago when I started my story of my life. I asked a friend who had edited her book and she gave me Suzanne’s name. I contacted her and she instantly became my most trusted and spiritually alike friend. She and I are linked vibrationally now and I can feel when there is something wonderous or not going on in her life and she can feel it with me. Truly connected to spirit is she!

Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?I am also the ‘Inspirational Director’ of Inspire Your Day Australia www.inspireyourday.com.au. A website that I created in 2006 to help others ‘create the life of their wildest dreams’. Everyday from Monday to Friday I send out a free email to subscribers with an inspiring, motivational quote and also links to products, services and events. I created this for two reasons. One because I had a period in my life where I was a single mother of 5 children and got to a place where I didn’t think life was worth living and had no idea how to get help. If it wasn’t for lots of quotes and books and wonderful people who came into my life to help. I wouldn’t be where I am today. I decided that I didn’t want anyone to get to the dark place I had got to, so created ‘Inspire Your Day’. The second reason was that it was an excellent place to show off my photography to the world and to start my dream of photographs and quotes together! So…If I Can Do It, You Can! Oh by the way, that’s the name of my story of my life…to be released.
