Featured Artist Question and Answers: |
| How long have you been making jewellery? I've been a qualified Gemmologist since 1975,as well as cutting and polishing gemstones ( lapidiary hobby) since that time but didn't actually start making jewellery until about 12 years ago. |
| |
| How have you developed your this skill in creating jewellery?
In the beginning a look at a $4 wire art book inspired me to start setting stones, then a video or two and lots of consultation with friends developed my skills. |
| |
| |
| Who or what has been a major inspiration/influence in art? The endless variety of gemstone has always been the inspiration for my focus; the stone dictates the work, while the members of the Hawaii Fibre Art and Stitchery Guild have been the most influential in my creative journey.
|
| |
| What do you hope to give with your art?
An appreciation and enjoyment of the natural beauty and amazing variety of gemstone both precious and ornamental. |
| |
| What has been your greatest moment with your jewellery?
There have been so many wonderful moments along the way that I couldn't separate any one in particular. Just qualifying all those years ago was probably the basis for all the adventures that followed. |
| |
| Where would you like to take your art?
I'm not taking my art anywhere at the moment and just not sure where it's taking me.
|
| |
| What would you say to someone who is interested in taking up jewellery making?
Follow your instincts - explore, learn and enjoy. |
| |
| What part of your spirit adds to your success as an artist?
I think my never-ending sense of exploration and discovery as a free spirit adds to the success of my wire-art jewellery. |
| |
| Who do you know that is a ‘spirited’ woman? The most influential and spirited woman I know is my dear friend Fran Cummins of Two Teachers Digging Science Hawaii, She has been an inspirational friend and mentor over the years. |
| |
| Is there anything else you would like to let us know about you?
I exhibit at Seaview Artists Gallery, Moffat Beach and at the Noosa Regional Gallery, Pelican St, Tewantin. I also travel every year to the world's largest Gem & Mineral Show in Tuscon, Arizona,to source my gemstone material. |
