Featured Artist Question and Answers: |
| How long have you been taking photos? I remember when I was about 11 and saw a woman do a somersault with no hands right in front of me and I was completely mesmerized, wanting to film her, and wanting to lock the memory in mind forever. Growing up on a farm I’d see insane things all the time and still love the jolt of being moved by something wonderful. It wasn’t until much later, mid teens that I actually had a chance to use a camera. I’m still in awe of how a camera works, I don’t fully understand how the film or (to be more modern) the ‘sensor’ works and I don’t want to know – I love the mystery and magic of it. It’s a trip. |
| |
| How have you developed your art?
With lots of help! I’ve found mentors and am lucky to spend time with people who enjoy sharing some of what they know. I ask lots of questions, do courses; spend heaps of money on books….and I practise. It’s taken me a long time to understand the importance of work flow, planning, practise, procedure and plain old theory. Knowing how to be inspired and acting on my intuitive inspiration is also part of my process. |

| |
| Who or what has been a major inspiration/influence in your art? The Dreamtime paintings by the young women whom I went to high school with continue to impact my expressions almost every day. Mythical symbolism, dramatic performance and sensuality are major forces for me. A short film by Tracey Moffat, Brett Whitely’s studio, Dianne Arbus, Florence Broadhurst, Music, Scuba Diving, New Orleans, Melbourne, Tokyo, Vienna, Santorini, Holland, Byron Bay, Paulo Coelhos’s books, Oriah Mountian Dreamer’s books, Ellen Von Unwerth

| What do you hope to give with your photography?
I want to give people the best photos they’ve ever had in their lives. To give surprises and oh my god moments – to truly move people. Through photography I’m able to give a visual representation, a visible perspective, evidence, something tangible but also the experience of creating it which is collaboration and the sharing of energy. Art is a gift. Creation is a gift. To give in a commercial and personal sense is a beautiful balance of energies. |
| |
| What do you get from photography?
It reminds me that every moment I’m seeing something and experiencing something FOR THE FIRST TIME and there’s magic in that. |
| |
| What has been your greatest moment with your photography?
My first media pass was a hoot at Woodford Folk Festival. I thought I was the BEES KNEES, me and my camera allowed at a music festival….. I was in la la Land, hopeless, ecstatic, over the moon. I came home afterwards, lay on my bed and thought I’d died and gone to heaven. |
| |
| Where would you like to take your art?
To have shows and call outs nationally and worldwide, to have image and design input nationally and worldwide. To instigate art festivals and spaces. To collaborate and work with the most talented and fun people I can. To be paid ridiculously well for doing exactly what I love and to add value to other people’s dreams as I follow my own. |
| |
| What would you say to someone who is interested in taking up photography?
Use both hands. Hassle the guys at camera house! Know your camera kit. Take pictures. Get very serious about being the best that YOU can possibly be in your own unique and wonderful way. |
| |
| What part of your spirit adds to your success as an artist? The part that knows why I’m here, that beautiful part that is fiercely certain about what needs to be done and is dead set on doing it. |
| |
| Who do you know that is a ‘spirited’ woman?
I’m lucky to be SURROUNDED, absolutely mobbed by numerous incredible magical spirited women – they’re everywhere, radiating brilliantly all around us! |
| |
| Is there anything else you would like to let us know about you? That I’m based in Mooloolaba and specialise in portraits, product shots, and real estate images.
